RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – A new gas station could be coming to a Rio Rancho neighborhood, but is it too close to nearby homes? That’s the question some living nearby are asking about the proposal that’s already cleared its first hurdle.

Neighbors said they’re worried about the traffic that could come to their area. They’re also sad that they’d potentially lose the sight they now have of the Sandia Mountains. “I’m not even going to be able to see the mountains. I retired because this is a nice community to retire in. I want to enjoy my retirement,” said nearby Rio Rancho resident David Gonzales.
An empty lot in Rio Rancho along Highway 528 and Obregon Road could become a Maverik gas station after Rio Rancho’s Planning and Zoning Board approved the site plan this week. However, neighbors nearby said they’re trying to block the project…
