‘It takes people back’: Man collects New Mexico, Route 66 neon signs

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KFDA) – As the Route 66 Caravan continues along the Mother Road, Ruben on the Road makes a stop in Albuquerque.

There he meets Carlos Garcia, a resident who collects neon signs along Route 66 in New Mexico.

“Well I was really fortunate. I grew up with parents who love the culture here in New Mexico. So I have a real basis with the mixing of cultures with the Hispanic culture and Native American culture. And I come from a railroad family on both sides. So I kind of was interested in all these things,” said Garcia. “And then our families in the automobile business. So it’s kind of natural that I like cars and gas pumps and things like that and advertising.”…
