Storms that passed through Metro Detroit on Sunday afternoon mostly caused flooding on roads and led to sewer overflows.
Michigan Department of Public Transportation spokesperson Diane Cross said there was minor flooding on state roads on Sunday. No roads were closed as a result, however. Flooding was due to clogged catch basins and too much rain water.
Meanwhile, combined sewer overflows occurred in the Wayne County communities of Redford Township, Inkster and Dearborn Heights on Sunday, according to emails by Dan Swiecki, an official in the Wayne County Department of Public Services. Combined sewer overflows (CSOs) are discharges from older sewer systems designed to carry both sewage and stormwater, according to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.
