Triple-digit heat will move into many areas of New Mexico Wednesday with near-record high temperatures. Slightly cooler air arrives later this week with rain chances returning before hotter weather moves back in this weekend.
Drier and hotter weather moved into New Mexico Tuesday afternoon. A northwest wind was gusting over 30 mph from Durango and Farmington south to Albuquerque, where dew points fell dramatically compared to the last few days. Temperatures climbed all across the state today, with highs reaching the 90s and triple digits in many areas.
Even hotter weather is on the way Wednesday as even drier air moves into the state. Many locations will be near record highs, with temperatures climbing into the upper 90s and triple digits across much of New Mexico. Albuquerque has a chance to see its first 100° day of the year, while highs could reach 110° in parts of southeast New Mexico. A Heat Advisory goes into effect for the Albuquerque Metro Wednesday. An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for Chaves County, while Eddy and Lea counties are under a Heat Advisory.
