BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — North Carolina court officials say scammers have been using public information to impersonate law enforcement for decades, and they warn the problem continues across the state.
Officials say thieves often claim victims have outstanding warrants or missed court dates, then pressure them to send money to avoid arrest. Courts stress they will never request payment by phone, mail or gift cards.
