Downtown San Antonio’s long-vacant El Tropicano might soon be luring jetsetters again. The landmark River Walk hotel, now Sítio El Tropicano, has drafted some star talent to lead its food and beverage program: Austin’s Emmer & Rye Hospitality Group.
Emmer & Rye is no stranger to creating destinations. After opening several acclaimed restaurants in the Capital City, the group — led by partners Kevin Fink, Tavel Bristol-Joseph, Alicynn Fink, and Rand Egbert — shook up Pearl with Ladino, Henbit, and Pullman Market. The concepts soon collected some serious plaudits, from Michelin stars to a James Beard finalist nod for Bristol-Joseph in the Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker category.
Although details are still slim, the group will run three concepts at Sítio El Tropicano: a lobby café and provisions shop, a signature all-day restaurant, and a poolside spot serving cocktails and bites. Emmer & Rye will also handle food and beverage for the hotel’s 16,000 square feet of event space…
