Greenville Co. sheriff welcomes performance audit with renewed push for higher deputy pay

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis says his agency could see a new wave of departures after Greenville County Council approved its budget, and he believes the public will notice the impact if staffing drops further.

In a Roll Call podcast episode released Friday, Lewis said the debate over deputy pay has been building for months and criticized claims that the issue came out of nowhere.

“I’ve always fought for every employee at Greenville County in my six years here… [We’re] 31st in the state as far as starting pay [for deputies],” Lewis said…
