EUGENE, Ore. — A Lane County man will spend seven and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to assaulting and strangling his wife during a violent domestic incident that prosecutors said left her with lasting effects from a concussion.
On June 29, 2026, Lane County Circuit Court Judge Debra K. Vogt sentenced David Dwayne Vaale to a total sentence of 90 months in prison under Measure 111 after he pleaded guilty to Assault in the First Degree – Constituting Domestic Violence, a Class A felony, and Felony Strangulation – Constituting Domestic Violence, a Class C felony, according to a press release from the Lane County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said the assault happened March 28, 2025, when Vaale and the victim, his wife of nine years, were having a discussion over dinner that turned to his losing money gambling.
