Woman convicted of shooting bystander dead during Bourbon Street gunfight gets 28 years

A woman convicted of firing a stray bullet that struck and killed Christopher Oatts Jr., two years ago has been sentenced to 28 years in prison, Orleans Parish Criminal District Court records show.

The 39-year-old man visiting New Orleans from Florida in June 2024, was shot dead as he walked along the 600 block of Bourbon Street when a feud between two women escalated into a gun battle. Oatts was not involved in the altercation that led to the shooting.

A New Orleans jury in May found Mia Lindsey, 28, guilty of manslaughter, a lesser charge from the second-degree murder indictment she was tried on for three days. The jury ruled Lindsey not guilty of obstruction of jutice in it May 13 verdict…
