SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Tucked beneath the Scenic Church, the Springfield Recovery Community Center has quietly become a lifeline for people fighting addiction. But a budget veto is threatening the broader network of services that keeps that lifeline intact.
The Missouri Coalition of Recovery Support Providers requested $6 million from the state to fund recovery centers across Missouri. The governor vetoed half of it — a $3 million cut that advocates say will have real consequences for thousands of people seeking help.
“That $3 million represents 1,200 people who won’t get services across the state of Missouri,” said David Stoecker, executive director of the Springfield Recovery Community Center. “Cuts like these are gonna reverse those trends of the lowered overdose deaths and increase the amount of people who are unhoused here in Springfield and around the state.”
