Eugene police to step up speed enforcement in July under Oregon impact grant

EUGENE, Ore. — Speeding drivers in Eugene can expect extra enforcement through the month of July as police focus on highways and busy surface streets where they have seen significant speeding.

The Eugene Police Department said its Traffic Safety Unit will conduct “Special Targeted Speed Enforcement” using an Oregon Impact Grant. Police said the grant provides overtime funding for a period of intensive, high-visibility enforcement.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, almost a third of traffic fatalities are speed related. Police noted that even with advancements in vehicle safety and passenger protect, people are not safe from the dangers of speeding…
