WASHINGTON STATE — The grace period for Washington’s Work Zone Speed Camera Program has ended. As of July 1, drivers caught speeding in active construction zones will receive fines rather than warnings.
The program, a partnership between state legislators and the Washington State Department of Transportation, has been in a pilot phase for more than a year. Washington State Patrol Trooper Daniel Mosqueda said the change is effective immediately.
“Initially, all the first tickets that individuals received were warnings,” Mosqueda said. “So, for example, if you were speeding in a construction zone and the traffic camera took a picture of your vehicle and registration, a ticket was mailed to the registered owner at their home, but it wasn’t a ticket they needed to pay; it was more of a warning that has changed, effective immediately today.”…
