RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The city of Richmond will open several cooling centers amid extreme heat during the Fourth of July holiday.
According to city officials, staff are monitoring the forecast daily this week as temperatures are expected to rise on Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the Fourth of July weekend.
The cooling centers are activated when temperatures reach 92 degrees for two or more consecutive hours, with the threshold to be met over the next few days, the city said.
Henrico County opens cooling centers on Independence Day
The following are the cooling centers available for residents in the River City:
- Salvation Army Cooling Center — 1900 Chamberlayne Ave.
- Southside Plaza Service Center — 4100 Hull Street Road (closed Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4)
- Richmond Public Librarylocations — (closed Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4)
- Parks and Recreationoutdoor pools — Battery Park Community Center Pool, Blackwell Pool, Fairmount Pool, Hotchkiss Field Community Center Pool, Powhatan Pool, Randolph Pool (open 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 3, through Sunday, July 5)
