WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A new Kansas law now in effect could put drivers in legal trouble over something commonly seen on roads across the state: frames over license plates.
Under the law, a license plate frame that covers the state name, plate number or registration tag is a violation. Frames used for decoration, college pride or left on by dealerships are all subject to the rule.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the news law defines what portions of the license plate must remain visible.
What the penalties are
“And if you are found to be breaking the law, you could face a fine of up to $2,500 and potentially 30 days to 6 months in jail and that’s just for a license plate cover,” said reporter Jordan Tovar. “Some of the people I spoke with said they felt it was a little extreme on the punishments.”…
