Lane County commissioners expected to vote Tuesday on waste budget fix

LANE COUNTY, Ore. – Lane County commissioners are considering closing two rural waste transfer stations and raising fees at others to address a $5 million budget shortfall.

The Lane County Waste Management Division is looking at shutting down stations in Creswell and Walton. These are two of 15 stations throughout the county where people can drop off garbage without using a commercial trash hauler or driving to the Short Mountain Landfill.

“Walton is very close to Veneta, and then Creswell is very close to two other transfer stations,” said Jeff Orlandini, division manager for the Waste Management Division. “We believe that waste will go to another transfer station. Those same customers would go to the other transfer station and dump relatively the same amounts. From a location standpoint, it would make sense.”…
