Suspects charged with Hopewell teen’s death now facing additional charges

CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The four suspects charged with killing 18-year-old Jayden McComber are now facing additional charges, including first-degree murder.

As of Tuesday, July 7, online court records now show that the four suspects are facing two first-degree murder charges and the initial second-degree charge. However, typically, this indicates the Commonwealth’s Attorney plans to drop the second-degree charge and upgrade it to first-degree.

Additionally, the following suspects each face charges for robbery resulting in death, and two counts of felony use of a firearm:

  • 23-year-old Rashad Mayfield of Henrico County
  • 20-year-old Devonti Pettaway of Chesterfield County
  • 18-year-old Kennady Lambert of Hopewell
  • 19-year-old Jaden Phillips of Richmond
