Lafayette DA launches investigation into UL athletic recruiting expenses

LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — The Lafayette District Attorney’s Office confirmed it has launched a criminal investigation into allegations that athletic recruiting expenses at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette were falsified.

Former Associate Athletic Director Troy Wingerter is at the center of the case. Wingerter told News 15 last week that he was forced to retire following allegations involving about $5,000 in misappropriated funds.

He maintained that the football recruitment expenses were legal and proper, but said they were improperly invoiced and miscoded. He also stated that no one personally benefited from the transactions…
