Caseyville Board Approves New Business Licenses As Residents Press Code Enforcement Concerns

The Caseyville Village Board met July 1 at Village Hall and via Zoom. Mayor Kent Luebbers called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.

Tensions again surfaced during public comment as residents pressed officials over road maintenance, park bathrooms, vehicle lettering, property upkeep and code enforcement. Meanwhile, trustees approved a new business license for Crossroads Donuts, a packaged liquor license for Los Arcos Mexican Store, the sale of surplus village property, a demolition contract for 422 S. Main Street and payment of $150,940.18 in bills.

Deb Doughty questioned whether recent striping on village roads meant the village would not be oiling and chipping roads this year. Doughty said the east side and Route 157 area had not received attention in several years and described “holes” and “dips” that needed repair. “I paid my taxes today,” she resident said, adding that the money “might help pay for it.” Later in the meeting, the same road concerns returned, with a resident saying striping alone would not stop drivers from speeding and that maintenance was still needed…
