Beloved Mexican restaurant expands into iconic Deco Pizzeria building

The historic Deco Pizzeria building at 1815 Fredericksburg Road has seen some tenant turnover in recent years, with the pizza concept and its replacement, Unko Maui’s, closing a couple of years apart. The building’s latest occupant hails from a different part of San Antonio and is bringing home-style Mexican cooking and a full bar.

Con Amor Cocina is preparing to expand with a second location in the former Deco Pizzeria space, originally built in 1938 as a gas station. The Southeast Side business has already posted a temporary sign bearing its logo on the premises, prompting MySA to reach out to the Mexican eatery for more details about its plans.

“Yes, this will be a second location for Con Amor Cocina. Our original location at 2314 Steves Ave. will remain open, and we’re excited to expand with our new restaurant at 1815 Fredericksburg Road,” Con Amor Cocina responded in a message exchange.

The new Con Amor Cocina will be called Con Amor Cocina y Cantina and will offer breakfast, lunch, dinner and a full bar. There is no set opening date yet, but the restaurant’s team is working to move into the space sooner rather than later…
