OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Omaha Police have announced arrests connected to what they are calling an “aggressive street takeover” last month that left an officer temporarily blinded by a fire extinguisher.
The incident began when officers responded to the area of Storz Expressway and Lindbergh Drive for a large crowd and numerous vehicles blocking the intersection.
What police say happened
According to police, when an officer attempted to disperse the crowd using his cruiser, a man wearing a red mask began filming the officer and allegedly making obscene gestures. Multiple suspects then allegedly rushed the cruiser, shaking and bouncing it.
A suspect then allegedly sprayed a fire extinguisher directly at the cruiser, blinding the officer’s forward and side vision and forcing him to back the vehicle up to reach safety.
Arrests made
Police said a 16-year-old from Des Moines admitted to investigators late last month that he sprayed the officer’s cruiser. He was released to a guardian and faces a charge of obstructing a police officer…
