Federal grand jury indicts former Erie High JROTC teacher in new case

(WJET/WFXP)– A federal grand jury has indicted the former Erie High JROTC teacher on sexual exploitation of a minor in a separate case from the charges filed against him in Florida.

A Pittsburgh federal grand jury unsealed a four-count indictment accusing 50-year-old Jason Dekaye of Meadville on Thursday that carries up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

Dekaye has been accused by federal authorities of attempting to and receiving sexually exploitative material involving a minor on January 19 and 20, along with possessing and accessing to view said material.

During that same time, Dekaye was also under investigation by police in Martin County, Florida, for allegedly sending harmful material to an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old during an online chat session on January 6.

He was taken into custody for that incident on January 23 at his Meadville home and was held at the Crawford County Correctional Facility on $750,000 bond and was later extradicted to Florida where he pleaded not guilty…
