Kansas is seeing a mix of restaurant closures this month, ranging from a recognizable Tex-Mex chain to fast-food and local dining spots. The closings are part of a wider national wave of restaurant closures affecting communities across America.
On The Border in Wichita
On The Border closed its Bradley Fair location in Wichita permanently on Friday, June 12, 2026 — and with it, the last On The Border restaurant in Kansas.
The Tex-Mex restaurant at 1930 North Rock Road had operated at Bradley Fair since 1997, serving fajitas, margaritas, enchiladas and other Tex-Mex staples to east Wichita for nearly three decades. Its closure followed the shutdown of Wichita’s other location at NewMarket Square, which closed on May 29.
The closures are part of a national contraction. On The Border filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March 2025 and was later acquired by Houston-based Pappas Restaurants, but the new ownership ultimately closed all remaining company-owned locations. After June 12, there were no On The Border restaurants left in the state of Kansas.
