A former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy has been sentenced for lying to federal investigators about an alleged extortion scheme involving a self-described cryptocurrency mogul who prosecutors say used off-duty law enforcement officers as part of his private security operation.
Federal prosecutors said the case stems from an August 2021 incident at the Bel Air mansion of Adam Iza, 25, who lived in Beverly Hills and Newport Beach and called himself “The Godfather.”
