COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Columbus City Council adopted a five-year consolidation plan Monday, setting priorities for affordable housing, economic development, and community revitalization across the city. The meeting also marked the first day in office for new City Manager Tyson Begley and newly seated District 9 At-Large City Councilor Dr. Cathy Cook.
New faces in city leadership
Cook, a local dentist, was elected to the District 9 At-Large seat after months of campaigning. She was sworn in during Monday’s council meeting.
“People like AJ McLung, Doctor Bob Wright, Evelyn Turner Pugh. I intend to walk in mercy, and I ask for God’s guidance and wisdom over the things we do,” Cook said.
Begley said his first meeting as city manager went as expected.
