NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Hermitage woman said she was scammed out of over a thousand dollars in June by someone pretending to be a Davidson County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
No arrests have been made in connection with the June 24 incident, in which scammers coerced Christy Mathis, 55, into sending over $1,200 to them through an online payment app.
According to the police report, Mathis believed the money would be used by the department for a family member’s pretrial release into a drug program.

Mathis said she realized she was defrauded after watching a similar story on television. The Metro Nashville Police Department is investigating, but the money has not been recovered. Mathis said she wants to see stronger laws and policies to help those targeted by scams…
