Beloved Texas bird tradition canceled after shopping center says no

A beloved Central Texas summer tradition has hit an unexpected roadblock.

Travis Audubon, a Central Texas nonprofit and independent chapter of the National Audubon Society, announced Monday that it has canceled its annual purple martin parties in Round Rock after Rassier Properties, which manages Greenlawn Crossing in Round Rock, declined to allow the gatherings this year.

Last year, they were held at Round Rock Crossing after the birds moved from Highland Mall in North Austin.  This year, the birds shifted their nightly roost to the H-E-B-anchored shopping center at 601 Louis Henna Blvd…
