GULF COAST — Heavy rain and thunderstorms are tracking across a broad stretch of the Gulf Coast region today, with radar showing intense bands stretching from San Antonio and Austin through Houston and into New Orleans. The persistent, slow-moving nature of this rain is raising the risk of localized street flooding in communities beneath the heaviest cores.
Intense Rain Bands Target San Antonio Austin and Houston
Radar imagery shows the most intense rainfall currently tracking through South Central Texas, with strong cores near San Antonio and Austin producing heavy downpours capable of quickly overwhelming drainage systems. This band extends northeast through the Houston metro, where additional heavy rain continues to fall.
The concentrated nature of these storms means some neighborhoods could see rapid street flooding while areas just outside the heaviest bands stay relatively dry.
Storms Extend East Toward New Orleans and the Louisiana Coast
Farther east, another area of heavy rain is tracking across southern Louisiana, with strong cells developing near New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast. This activity is expected to continue producing locally heavy downpours as the day progresses.
Combined, the two areas of heavy rain form a broad corridor of flooding concern stretching from South Texas through the Louisiana coastline.
Street Flooding Remains the Primary Hazard Today
