Suspected Ped Mall shooter’s trial will not be transferred to juvenile court

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The suspect in the April 19 Ped Mall mass shooting will not be getting his cased moved to juvenile court, a judge ruled Tuesday.

Damarian Jones faces five counts of attempted murder and other charges. Jones was 17 at the time police say he fired multiple rounds into a crowd of people in the Ped Mall in the early morning hours that Sunday. He turned 18 last week and defense lawyers argued on his behalf that the case should shift to juvenile court saying since he is still young, he is a prime candidate for rehabilitation.
