‘Beautiful, innocent people’: 8 pedestrians killed by cars in Milwaukee this year, loved ones plead for change

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — According to the City of Milwaukee’s “Vision Zero” program, eight people have been hit and killed by cars in 2026.

“Every time we hear someone else has been lost, another family is destroyed, it’s heart-wrenching and it reminds us we need to keep doing this work,” Vision Zero Policy Director Jessica Wineberg said.

On Sunday night, 49-year-old Amy Austin and 48-year-old May Daiber were hit and killed on Milwaukee’s north side.

“Please slow down, you guys are killing these beautiful, innocent people. Our friends, our family, your family, your friends are out there — so please slow down, stop doing this stupid nonsense driving,” May’s friend, Fua Okrzesik, said…
