A former Hudson County Superintendent of Weights and Measures has been charged with theft and official misconduct following an investigation into more than $250,000 in diverted funds, Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello announced.
Frank Alonso, 58, of Union City, was arrested Tuesday, July 14, 2026, by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit. He is charged with three counts of official misconduct, pattern of official misconduct, and three counts of theft by unlawful taking. He was released pending his first court appearance.
According to authorities, between January 2024 and January 2026, Alonso diverted funds intended for the Hudson Regional Health Commission, the Office of Weights and Measures, and the New Jersey Weights and Measures Association into accounts used for personal gain.
