‘Hazardous’ air quality in northern suburbs: See where it’s the worst as pools, beaches closed

Air quality in parts of the Chicago area including the north suburbs were either “very unhealthy” or “hazardous,” the air quality tracking website AirNow.gov showed, with “everyone” advised to stay inside as a thick plume of wildfire smoke covers northeastern Illinois and southwestern Wisconsin.

The air quality alert, issued for nearly all of the Chicago area, including parts of northwest Indiana and Kenosha County in Wisconsin, will last until at last Thursday night.

“Not only due to wildfire smoke but also unhealthy ozone levels, the pollutants in the air,” NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Alicia Roman said. “That’s something we’ve seen since Tuesday evening.”…
