KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Today brings our best chance of rain in the forecast, and we are issuing First Warns that it may disrupt some afternoon outdoor plans. Then our eye turns to extra hot weather starting over the weekend.
Today First Warn for scattered rain and thunderstorms moving into the area this afternoon and evening. These may cause some disruptions to work or fun plans outside at times, though delays should be brief. While not everyone will see rain, those who do could experience some brief heavy downpours.
The chance for any one spot to see rain is 50%, with the best odds between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Most storms will move slowly, which means if you get caught under a slow-moving storm, you could see 1″ to 2″ of rain. Others will get much less rain on the fringes of showers, and some will miss out entirely.
The cloud cover and rain will keep temperatures more seasonable Thursday afternoon, with highs around 89 degrees. But don’t let that fool you — humidity will spike, making it feel closer to the mid-90s with the heat index.
Friday: Drier, Still Warm
Friday still has a chance for a pop-up or two, but the chance is lower at just 20%. High temperatures will climb to around 90 degrees, feeling closer to the mid to upper 90s with humidity.
Saturday: Dry & Hot
Mostly sunny skies and dry conditions take over Saturday. High temperatures will build to 93 degrees, with heat index values pushing near 100.
Sunday & Monday: First Warn for Hazardous Heat
The hottest weather so far this year arrives by the end of this weekend. High temperatures soar to 94 to 97 degrees. Heat index values will make it feel near 105 degrees both days. This is a Level 3/4 – Major – Heat Risk, meaning every hour of work outside should have 20 minutes of cooling breaks.
Relief by Tuesday
A cool front will move through early next week, bringing relief from the dangerous heat. Humidity will drop and high temperatures will fall back to the lower 90 degrees by Tuesday…
