Medina Bee Park opening beautifies South Town

MEDINA — Medina Bee Park, a new “pop-up” park at 380 S. Broadway St., has officially opened to welcome visitors to its respite in the South Town District. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, shown above, took place June 26.

With support from a committee of designers, landscapers, business owners, residents, artists, community groups and the City of Medina, Main Street Medina orchestrated the creation of an outdoor gathering space featuring patio lighting, public art, a stage, seating and pollinator plants all located in a highly visible area of the city.

Over $25,000 was raised in support of the new park, and a Bee Park subcommittee was established to oversee park operations. The subcommittee also launched an art contest to create a mural for the large wall on the property. The seven-person judging panel chose two pieces as co-winners of the mural art contest, Logan Gsellman and Sid Frazier. Gsellman’s piece, currently displayed, was inspired by summer family walks through the flower-laden fields of his family’s property in Medina. Gsellman’s artwork is shown at right.
