LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Despite public assurances to the contrary by Lansing Police over the course of two mayoral administrations, the city of Lansing now says it is fighting a “hybrid” gang issue.
Lansing Police Department Officer Aaron Bush testified extensively on March 20 about the alleged gang activity in the city. Bush’s knowledge was the result of his assignment to the LPD Violent Crime Initiative.
“It’s a combination of plain clothes, unmarked officers, as well as fully marked uniform officers with the overall goals of investigating and reducing violent crime in Lansing,” Bush said in a 54-A District Court hearing about the methods and purposes of VCI. “Accomplished in many different ways, but most often it involves assisting detectives during investigations of violent crimes.”
