KINDERHOOK, N.Y. (WNYT) – Martin Van Buren National Historic Site said tours of the Lindenwald Mansion will resume Friday after storm cleanup, though some areas remain closed.
The site said the mansion in Kinderhook will reopen for public tours on Friday, July 17. Parts of the historic core will stay closed while maintenance staff and arborists keep removing storm-damaged trees, and visitors are being urged to avoid closed areas for safety.
According to the historic site, winds on the evening of July 2 were estimated to exceed 60 mph and damaged more than 100 trees in the historic core. The Lindenwald Mansion and the South Gatehouse had minor damage from tree branches, and National Park Service crews from Martin Van Buren and Hyde Park have spent the past two weeks clearing dead and downed trees…
