MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. (WAFF) – A combined team of North Alabama first responders trained in swift water rescue is in route to San Antonio, Texas, following a request for mutual aid as flooding continues to force evacuations across central Texas.
Marshall County EMA Director Blake Farmer said he received the call around 7 a.m. Thursday that Texas was seeking outside assistance. Farmer is part of Alabama Task Force 3, a volunteer group that responds to other states during disasters.
The team includes personnel from Guntersville, Fort Payne and Cullman. The group is staging at Cullman Fire Station 3 before making the drive to San Antonio. Farmer said the team is bringing two boats to use in rescuing people from floodwaters and has been asked to remain in Texas for seven days…
