Senior living facility launches ASL program ahead of deaf resident’s birthday

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Commonwealth Senior Living in Chesterfield is partnering with Care Advantage to launch an American Sign Language program. That’s not the only milestone the community is celebrating, as one of their residents is celebrating her birthday on Friday. For the first time, the staff will wish her a happy birthday in her language, ASL.

This moment will mark the beginning of an ASL program for staff. Its goal is to improve communication and quality of life with its deaf and hard-of-hearing residents.
