Sacred Heart celebrates 140 years of care in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. — Providence Sacred Heart marked 140 years of service in Spokane on Thursday as patients, families and community members spent hours exploring the hospital’s Memory Garden and learning about its past.

The hospital opened a little more than a decade after the city was founded, and has remained a pillar of health care in Spokane from the Great Spokane Fire in 1889, through the present day.

Jessica Long, Sacred Heart’s artifact curator, said the hospital’s historical collection reaches back to its earliest days and even beyond…
