Former Kan. detective charged with felony crimes is due back in court

SEDGWICK COUNTY — A former Kansas sheriff’s office detective accused of felony crimes will be back in court Friday.

Shawn McMahon, 57, is scheduled to attend a hearing in the courtroom of Judge Kevin Smith, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office. The judge will determine if there is enough evidence for the case to move forward.

In December 2024, the Wichita Police Department was requested to investigate the conduct of the former Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Deputy assigned to the Exploited and Missing Children’s Unit who allegedly failed to thoroughly investigate criminal complaints while serving on a task force investigating internet crimes involving children…
