Emory suspends Kappa Sigma fraternity chapter following hazing, alcohol violations

Emory University suspended the Kappa Sigma fraternity chapter through Fall 2029 following multiple policy violations, according to a July update to the University’s Campus Hazing Transparency Report. The report cited that Kappa Sigma obstructed and failed to comply with an active University directive during incidents on Jan. 17 and Jan. 25 in which Kappa Sigma violated the University Alcohol and Drug Abuse Policy and the University Anti-Hazing Policy.

Emory began publishing transparency reports in July 2021 in compliance with Georgia’s Max Gruver Act. The act requires all universities in the state to disclose hazing incidents and adjudication outcomes online for at least five years within 15 days of their adjudication.

In the Campus Hazing Transparency Report, the University stated that Kappa Sigma members hosted unregistered chapter-affiliated social events on Jan. 17 and Jan. 25 during the University’s social events moratorium.
