Mick Jagger attended Festival Napa Valley as his partner, former American Ballet Theatre dancer Melanie Hamrick, presented a program that paired classical ballet with the music of the Rolling Stones.
A Night at the Ballet, the festival’s dance gala on Friday, July 17, was part of its 20th-anniversary summer season. Hamrick produced the program with Joanna DeFelice and Christine Shevchenko at Charles Krug in St. Helena.
Performances included excerpts from “Don Quixote,” “Diana and Acteon” and “Le Corsaire.” But the highlight of the evening was the West Coast premiere of “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking,” choreographed and danced by guest artist Nicholas Palmquist. The contemporary solo piece is set to the Rolling Stones song from the band’s 1971 album “Sticky Fingers.”…
