OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – E-bike and e-scooter crashes are filling a growing share of pediatric beds at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Omaha, according to staff at the facility.
Three of every 10 children currently treated at the hospital are there because of e-bike or e-scooter crashes, a trend that mirrors national data from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System.
Brain injuries a lasting concern
Brooke Murtaugh, brain injury program manager at Madonna Rehabilitation, said the injuries extend well beyond broken bones.
“30 to 50% of individuals with e-bike or e-scooter injuries sustain a brain injury,” Murtaugh said…
