Police from the 108th Precinct in Long Island City are still looking for a suspect in an elderly assault investigation, one month after she got into an argument in broad daylight with an older woman near Lance Corporal Thomas P. Noonan Playground in Sunnyside.
The 67-year-old victim was walking in the vicinity of 43rd Street and 47th Avenue at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, when a stranger approached her from behind and screamed at the senior to get out of her way, according to a law enforcement source. When the elderly woman refused to comply, the two began arguing. The verbal dispute escalated into violence when the assailant slapped the victim across her face before fleeing eastbound on 37th Avenue toward Greenpoint Avenue. EMS responded to the location and treated the victim at the scene for minor injuries, police said.
The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect and described her as having a medium complexion with a slim build. She was wearing a light-blue long-sleeved top with dark pants, orange sneakers and had her head wrapped in a non-religious pink head covering.
A reward of up to $3,500 is being offered for information that leads to her arrest and indictment.
