Mother accused of hiding death of newborn after body found in dumpster

DETROIT (WKRC) — A Michigan woman is facing up to five years in prison after she was accused of concealing the death of her newborn son and putting his body in a dumpster.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of 31-year-old Daysiana Lachell Powell on July 15. According to the prosecutor’s office, police were called to a home in Detroit the morning of July 8, where they found the decomposing body of a baby boy, wrapped in a sheet and inside a blue tote bag that had been put in a dumpster.

The baby was identified as Powell’s newborn son. It’s not known at this time how the infant died, but authorities allege that Powell covered up the death of the boy and did not report it to police…
