Homeowners near burn scars urged to review insurance coverage

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Many homeowners mistakenly assume their standard homeowners insurance policy will cover any type of water damage, but that’s not always the case.

Damage caused by a flash flood is not covered under a standard policy, even though water damage from a burst pipe inside a home typically is.

Homeowners who want protection from flooding must purchase a separate flood insurance policy.
