VONORE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Environmental Protection Agency is considering a change that could make it easier for data centers to be built here in East Tennessee, and the proposed rule change could push public comments aside.
The proposed change would allow state and local agencies to set their own public participation requirements for what the EPA calls “minor air polluters,” including data centers. Amber Bright, who is hearing impaired, said she is worried about how these changes could impact her family.
“I do have concerns about the future. It’s not just my daughter that lives here, it’s my family. I have friends that live here, I got family that lives here and there’s all kinds of other people that I’d love to interact with,” said Bright.
