Most fire stories start with the damage. This one starts with something rarer: two people who got out alive from a situation that had no good reason to end that way.

On July 21, 2026, around 2:30 in the afternoon, Metro Fire crews responded to the 4001 block of Tawny Meadow Way in the Antelope neighborhood of Sacramento. The fire had not started inside a home. It started in the space between two homes, with both homeowners still inside.

Both made it out. No injuries reported.
