Historic Pershing Mural Finds New Home at Wyuka Park

LINCOLN, NEB — After years of fundraising, restoration and planning, Lincoln’s historic Pershing Mural has a new home at Wyuka Park and Cemetery, preserving a piece of Nebraska history for future generations.

The massive mosaic, which once covered the front of Pershing Auditorium, now stands facing O Street. The mural was unveiled in 1957 and became a landmark outside one of Lincoln’s major event venues. Its scenes were inspired by performances and activities held inside the auditorium.

When plans moved forward to demolish the aging building, community members worried the artwork would be lost…
