Drivers beware: Construction set to close lanes on SR 51 in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Driving through central Phoenix is going to take longer starting next week.

A section of State Route 51 will be narrowed to two northbound lanes for seven weeks starting Monday morning, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.

The lane restrictions will remain in place 24/7 between Highland Avenue and Camelback Road. Crews will replace about 700 feet of pavement that was damaged by repairs to the freeway’s drainage system.

ADOT said drivers should expect bigger delays than usual during morning and evening rush hours and consider using Interstate 17 to head north…
