Boca Raton Woman Tells Police She Was “Very Drunk,” Then Skips Court

According to the arrest report reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com, officers arriving at the scene found Murphy shaking and unsteady on her feet, with slurred and slow speech. She gave shifting explanations for where she’d been — first saying she was headed to a vape shop, then saying she was on her way to the hospital — and offered conflicting accounts of whether she’d taken Ambien the night before. She initially denied drinking alcohol in three days, then later told an officer, “Sir, I was very drunk last night.” Field sobriety exercises had to be modified so she could sit down after nearly losing her balance multiple times; officers noted signs of impairment during eye, balance and coordination tests.

Murphy was taken to Boca Raton Regional Hospital where doctors said she’d be there for several hours. Because of that delay, officers opted for a blood draw instead of a breath test. After being read her Miranda rights, Murphy told police she regularly takes Adderall, had taken Keppra that morning, and occasionally uses a marijuana vape pen. She was charged with DUI and later released.

Court records show Murphy refused to appear for her first court appearance on July 15 which led to a public defender being appointed to appear on her behalf. Murphy is now barred from alcohol, illegal drugs or unprescribed medications, and must submit to random testing every two weeks — testing she must report for the same day she’s notified. She’ll be back in court in August…
